Cost Effectiveness of E-Scooters

You may be seeing more and more e-scooters around and you might be wondering why. There are many benefits to owning an e-scooter, such as the convenience of its compactness, the ease of charging them, and the affordable cost of running them.

In the UK, the average new car costs around £20,000 and this does not include the fuel and upkeep that is required to run them. If you use public transport, you likely know that bus passes can also be quite costly. In Edinburgh, you can pay £600 per year for an adult bus pass, or if you pay monthly, it will cost you £56 per month. This adds up to an annual cost of £672 per year.

Of course, there are higher-end e-scooters, such as the Nanrobot LS7 which retails at £2,999, but this is still significantly cheaper than your average car.

There are several other reasons why e-scooters are cost-effective:

E-scooters require next to no routine maintenance

Forget about MOTs and other expensive routine checks that often come with owning a car, truck, van, etc. Other than potentially replacing brake pads and tyres, e-scooters don’t usually require routine extensive work and services, making them cheaper to maintain. Obviously, if the scooter has been damaged, it may require a repair service, however, this should not be a regular occurrence.  

Avoid the rising cost of fuel

Unlike most other vehicles, e-scooters run on electricity. The average car owner spends around £1,272 on petrol or £1,683 on diesel per year. On average, you can fully charge an e-scooter for approximately £0.30, assuming that you are using it on a daily basis. This cost may rise slightly if you have chosen a high-performance off-road e-scooter, but this will still not compare to the price of fuel.

Don’t worry about paying for parking 

If you live in a city such as Edinburgh or Glasgow, you will know that paying for parking can be costly. If you are planning on parking on George Street in Edinburgh, an hour can cost you around £10. We do not think that this is cost-effective. A huge benefit of e-scooters is that they are compact and can often be folded down, like the Aovo Pro 2, to take up even less space. If you plan on taking your e-scooter to work, you can simply fold it down and store it wherever you can find a small space.

Overall, owning an e-scooter is a great way to get around for a reasonable price. By using an e-scooter you can avoid the prices of bus tickets and passes, parking, routine maintenance, parking permits, etc.
